Recently I started running. If you can call it running. Might be more like jogging, or wogging. Whatever you want to call it, I'm going to call it running! Makes it sound so much cooler. I ran my first 5k race with a great group of gals from my hometown a few weeks ago. Loved it! It was cold, snowing, and the roads were slick as snot. But I loved it. I'm super competitive and although I didn't break any speed barriers, I was NOT going to let anyone see me walking. So, I ran the whole thing which was a great accomplishment for me. I will share my "shining" moment of the race though. Some might think it's a bit bitchy, but it was still my moment and I went with it!
So, as I said, I went to the race with 4 other girls, one of which is my sister/bff. She will love that reference. (By the way, she has a really funny blog http://www.ruralroutelife.blogspot.com .) So, as we are pulling up to the race sight, here's how the conversation played out:
Sis: Look at that girl getting out of her vehicle. I bet she's fast. And she's really pretty. I don't like her already.
Me: She does look fast. Ughh......I wanna be fast someday.
We then proceed to get all our gear on cause it's freezing outside and head in to pick up our goodie bags. Didn't think anything else of the "fast" girl until I was on the home stretch of the race. I was feeling pretty good about my run but kept searching for the finish line thinking I had to be getting pretty close. Up ahead of me I spotted the "fast" girl. Pretty soon I start getting closer and closer to her and I'm thinking "she ain't so fast". Then the impossible happens!!! I pass "fast" girl. She has to stop and walk........... At this point, it gets a little bitchy. Cause I say to myself - "she isn't so f'ing fast, she has nothing on THIS fast girl". Which is totally hilarious cause my time wasn't fast at all. But that was my MOMENT and I'm sticking to it!
I had so much fun at the race and immediately was addicted to the "atmosphere" and the pure competition mode when you see people passing you or running in front of you and you want to do that and be fast like them. Loved it!! So, the next step for our little group is to run the 1/2 Marathon in Lincoln in May. Part of me is dreading it but the other part says BRING IT ON!!!!!
I've started my 12 week training already cause I know I'll pry have a few weeks of repeats in there. Sunday is a 4 mile run. Some people use that as their "warmup". Which pisses me off and I'd like to hurt those people. I just hope I do it without walking.
My goal is to finish the 1/2. Cause let's face it, this is a HUGE deal for someone who couldn't run a mile 2 months ago without collapsing. :) With minimal walking involved or ambulances/medics...............And a ton of memories with friends!!! Whoooop....Whooooop!!!!!
